Happy Thursday everyone! It’s almost Friday! I wanted to share some news with you all, which might explain my lack of posting. On Tuesday night, I turned in my last assignment for school! I am now finished with school and looking forward to my graduation in May. I cannot express enough how proud of myself I am. I maintained a 4.0 cumulative G.P.A all but one semester while attending school. Therefore, I will be graduating with honors. To say that this has been a long journey is an understatement. Throughout this experience, I have learned so much about myself. I pushed myself in ways that I could never have imagined. I have learned so much, all while being a wife, mother, and working. Now that I am at the end of the road, I can honestly say that deciding to go back to school for interior design, was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Being in school afforded me so many great opportunities like landing an awesome internship, volunteering for great events, becoming a member of ASID, meeting some awesome vendors, and the list can go on and on. I will say it again, I learned a lot more than I could have ever imagined. The interior design community is fabulous here in Atlanta and I am so excited for the future.
Which brings me to my next bit of news. When I decided to go back to school my end plan was always to start my own design firm. I’m aware that it’s advised that you go work under a designer for about 5 years before you decide to hang your shingle out. This allows you to gain experience and hone your skills under an experienced designer. I actually worked for a designer while I was in school. Shortly after my internship ended I was offered a part time position at that firm. I gained a wealth of information. I was hired on as the purchasing manager, which entailed placing orders, tracking orders, resolving damage issues, working with vendors, and working with the receiving company and installers. Although, I am no longer with this company, the knowledge that I learned while working there is invaluable. I am eternally grateful that the principal designer trusted me and gave me such a great opportunity with his firm. I say all of that to say….I am starting my own design firm!!!! Eeeek!!!! I have pretty much shared this information with you in my goals post, you can read that here. As you can see above (in my website header) the name of my firm is Tia Spaulding Interiors. I am thrilled to be beginning this journey. I know there will be bumps in the road but that’s the case with most things in life. I’m taking this leap of faith because I would rather try and not succeed than to not try at all. My gut tells me to just do it…to jump and go for it. I have this strong feeling deep down in my soul…which is actually my intuition, that’s saying…the time is NOW! God blessed us with intuition for a reason and I am trusting mine. You all know I am big on the law of attraction, I have put out into the universe what I visualize for my business. The universe always provides if you ask, believe, and receive.
So, in the coming weeks, I am launching a new website. It’s going to be a fresh new look. Right now, I am finalizing branding and a few other things. I will be sure to let you know as soon as it’s ready to launch. I will share a more in depth post about my business, my process, and the different services I will offer. I will also be blogging more now that I am not spending 16 hour or more days working on school projects. So please stay tuned for all of this. There will be some changes but I will keep you informed throughout the process. Oh, and just because I am finished with school doesn’t mean the learning process is over. We should always be learning and bettering ourselves. Knowledge is power! I have a list of some software programs I will be teaching myself, some books to read, C.E.U events to attend, and much more.
Lastly, I am attending market at High Point this weekend for the first time. Listen, words can’t describe how excited I am about attending market. I have been living vicariously through other designers for years as they attended market. We leave tomorrow so be sure to follow me on Instagram as I share trends and what’s hot at High Point for spring. I will also be posting about my trip to High Point next week. Ok that’s all for today guys, I hope you have a wonderful day and a beautiful weekend.
